You place an ante and get two cards, as does the dealer. Three community cards are dealt. You either fold and lose the ante, or call with a bet of twice the ante. Two more community cards come, and the best five-card hand from your two cards plus the five shared ones is compared with the dealer's. The dealer needs a pair of fours or better to qualify.

You and the dealer get three cards each. After seeing yours, you fold or play. The dealer needs queen high or better to qualify. Many tables also offer a Pair Plus side bet that pays on your own hand, whatever the dealer has. In three-card poker a straight beats a flush, because it's harder to make.

In Casino Hold'em, most guides suggest calling with most hands and folding only the weakest, because folding gives up your ante. In Three Card Poker, a common rule is to play queen-six-four or better and fold anything lower. These rules lower the house edge but never remove it.
