Which betting guide should I read first?

If you're new, start with decimal odds, back and lay. Pick a topic to narrow the list.

Guide 1 of 7 · Basics

Decimal odds, back and lay

Goexch shows decimal odds. The number is your total return for each ₹1 staked, and that includes your stake. Odds of 2.50 return ₹2.50 for every ₹1.

On an exchange you can back an outcome to happen or lay it not to happen. When you lay, you take the other side of someone's back bet, so you risk the amount they would win.

Worked example

Back ₹100 at 2.50 and the outcome wins: you get ₹250 back, which is ₹150 profit. Lay ₹100 at 2.50 and the outcome wins: you pay ₹150. If it loses, you keep the ₹100 stake.

Check before you bet

  • Read odds as total return, not profit
  • Before you lay, work out your liability: stake × (odds − 1)
  • Check that your balance covers that liability

Guide 2 of 7 · Basics

How to place a cricket bet

Log in, open Cricket and pick a match. Choose a market, such as match odds or a session, and tap the price on the back or lay side. Enter your stake, check the potential return in the bet slip and confirm.

Prices move all the time, so look at the price in the slip once more just before you confirm.

Check before you bet

  • Check you've picked the right match and market
  • Confirm back or lay before you enter a stake
  • Read the potential return in the slip before confirming

Session and fancy betting

A session market asks how many runs the batting team will have at the end of a set over, for example after 6 or 10 overs. You'll see two lines. Back Yes if you think the team reaches the higher number, or No if you think it finishes below the lower one.

Extras count towards session runs, including wides, no-balls, byes and leg byes. If the team is all out or reaches its target early, the session settles on the final total. Super over runs never count.

Fancy markets cover other events in the match, such as a batter's runs or the fall of the next wicket. Each one settles on the official scorecard.

Check before you bet

  • Note the exact over the session closes on
  • Remember extras count and super overs don't
  • Read what makes the market void if play stops

Toss market betting

The toss market settles on the official toss result. If no toss takes place, every toss bet is void and your stake comes back.

A toss is close to a 50/50 call, so neither side can be priced at a true 2.00. The gap between the price you get and 2.00 is what the bet costs you, and it adds up over many tosses.

Worked example

If both teams are priced at 1.90, each side implies a 52.6% chance. Together that's 105.3%, and the extra 5.3% is the margin.

Check before you bet

  • Treat toss bets as a coin flip, because they are
  • Compare the price with 2.00 to see the margin
  • Know that no toss means a void bet

Live in-play betting

In-play prices update ball by ball. After a wicket, a boundary or a review, the market is often suspended for a few seconds while prices reset, and no bets are accepted until it reopens.

Your bet only counts once it's matched. On a fast-moving market, check your open bets to see whether it was matched in full, in part or not at all.

Check before you bet

  • Expect suspensions after wickets and reviews
  • Check your bet was matched before placing another
  • Set your stake before the over starts, not during it

Guide 6 of 7 · Basics

How betting prices include a margin

Every price implies a probability: divide 1 by the odds. 2.00 means 50%, and 1.50 means 66.7%. Add up the implied probabilities for every outcome in a market. Anything above 100% is the margin, and it's the reason betting costs money over time.

On a sportsbook the bookmaker sets that margin. On an exchange, prices come from other players, and the gap between the best back and lay prices shows how much you give up.

Check before you bet

  • Convert odds to a percentage with 1 ÷ odds
  • Add the outcomes up to see the margin
  • Prefer markets with a narrow back and lay gap

Guide 7 of 7 · Staying in control

Setting a budget and betting limits

Decide how much you can afford to lose each month before you deposit, and treat it as the cost of entertainment. Split it into small, equal stakes so one bad session doesn't use it all.

You can set daily, weekly or monthly deposit limits, take a cool-off break or self-exclude. Message your account manager on WhatsApp and they apply it to your ID straight away.

Check before you bet

  • Set a monthly amount you can afford to lose
  • Keep each stake small and the same size
  • Stop when the budget is gone, and don't chase losses

What do the Goexch betting guides cover?

Goexch betting guides explain how cricket markets work before you stake money on them. Start with decimal odds and back and lay, then move on to session, fancy and toss markets, live betting and the margin built into prices. Each guide ends with a short checklist, and the last one covers setting a budget.

Are these guides suitable for beginners?

Yes. They start with how to read odds and assume you've never placed a bet. Read the first guide on decimal odds, back and lay before the others.

What is a lay bet?

A lay bet is a bet that an outcome won't happen. You take the other side of someone's back bet, so if the outcome happens you pay their winnings: your stake multiplied by the odds minus 1.

Which guide explains session betting?

The session betting guide. A session bet is on how many runs the batting team will have at the end of a set over: you back Yes if you think they reach the higher line or No if you think they finish below the lower one.

Session betting guide

Is there a betting strategy that guarantees profit?

No. Every market includes a margin, so most bettors lose over time. The guides help you understand what you're betting on and keep the cost under control. They can't remove the risk.
