Toss market facts

  • A 50/50 call

Neither captain can influence the coin.

  • Priced under 2.00

The gap below 2.00 is the margin you pay.

  • Settles on the toss

Settled on the official toss result.

  • No toss, no bet

If there's no toss, every toss bet is void.

The basics

What is a toss market?

The toss is the first event of any cricket match. One captain calls heads or tails, and the winner decides whether to bat or bowl first. A toss market lets you bet on which team wins that call.

It's the simplest market in cricket: two outcomes, no scorecard to follow, and a result in seconds. That speed is also its risk, because it's easy to keep betting toss after toss.

Five steps

How do you bet on the toss on Goexch?

A toss bet works like any other bet. The difference is the deadline: the market closes before the coin goes up.

  1. Step 1 of 5

Open the match before the toss

Log in, open Cricket and pick the match. The toss usually happens about 30 minutes before the scheduled start, and the toss market closes before the coin goes up.

  2. Step 2 of 5

    Find the toss market

Toss markets aren't offered on every match. If there's one, it's listed with the other markets on the match page.

  3. Step 3 of 5

    Back the team you pick

Tap the back price for the team you think will win the toss. You can also lay a team, which is a bet that it loses the toss, but with only two outcomes most players simply back.

  4. Step 4 of 5

    Enter your stake and confirm

Enter a small stake, check the potential return and confirm. Do it before the market closes, because late bets aren't accepted.

  5. Step 5 of 5

    Wait for the result

Once the official toss result is in, the market settles and any winnings go to your balance.

The margin

How much does a toss bet cost you?

A fair price for a 50/50 event is 2.00. Toss prices sit below that, and the gap is the margin. Over many toss bets you can expect to lose about that much per ₹100 staked.

Price on each sideImplied chance eachBoth sides togetherAverage loss per ₹100
1.9052.6%105.3%₹5.00
1.9551.3%102.6%₹2.50
1.9850.5%101.0%₹1.00

At 1.90, ₹100 returns ₹190 half the time and nothing the other half, so it averages ₹95 back for every ₹100 staked. The higher the price, the less each toss bet costs. The online betting guide explains margins in more detail.

Myths

Can stats, timing or betting both sides beat the toss?

Venue and pitch stats

Venue history, pitch type and weather can tell you what a captain is likely to choose after winning the toss, such as bowling first under lights. That's useful for match odds and session markets. It tells you nothing about who wins the coin toss.

Timing your bet

Nothing new happens before a toss to move the chances, so toss prices barely change. There's little to gain from waiting. Place the bet when you're ready, before the market closes.

Backing both sides

₹100 on each team at 1.90 costs ₹200 and returns ₹190 whoever wins, a certain ₹10 loss. Betting both sides only locks in a profit if prices move a long way, and toss prices rarely do.

Why fast settlement needs a limit

A toss bet settles within seconds of the coin landing, and the next match has another toss. That makes it easy to keep reinvesting winnings or chasing a lost call.

  • Treat each toss bet as entertainment with a small, fixed stake.
  • Decide how many toss bets you'll place in a day, and stick to it.
  • Never double your stake after a lost toss. The next call is still 50/50.

What is a toss market in cricket betting?

A toss market is a bet on which team wins the coin toss before a cricket match. Each side has roughly a 50% chance, so prices sit just under 2.00. On Goexch, toss bets settle on the official toss result, and if no toss takes place every toss bet is void and stakes are returned.

Is the toss market predictable?

No. The toss is a coin flip, and no team, venue or captain changes the odds of calling it right. Venue history can suggest what the captain will choose after winning, but not who wins the toss.

When can I bet on the toss?

Before the coin is tossed. The toss usually happens about 30 minutes before the scheduled start, and the market closes before it. Bets aren't accepted after that.

Can I bet on both sides of the toss to guarantee a profit?

No. At normal toss prices below 2.00, backing both teams guarantees a small loss. ₹100 on each side at 1.90 costs ₹200 and returns ₹190 whichever team wins.

What happens to my toss bet if there's no toss?

If no toss takes place, for example because rain washes out the match first, every toss bet is void and your stake is returned.

Toss market rules

Is toss betting available for every match?

No. Toss markets are offered on some matches only. Check the match page to see whether there's one.
