Slots guide

What to check before you spin

Slots are the simplest casino games to play and the easiest to misread. Every spin is random, so the choices that matter come before you press Spin: the RTP, normally 94% to 97%, the volatility, and the way the game counts a win.

Where to look first

  • The RTP

It's in the info screen. Higher is better, and 96% is a common figure.

  • The bonus trigger

The paytable shows which symbols start free spins and what they can pay.

  • Your balance

Slots draw on the same Goexch balance as your cricket bets, so there's nothing to transfer.

  • Your device

Slots play in Chrome or Safari on any phone, from a home-screen shortcut or on a desktop.

Slot types

Which kinds of slot can you play?

All slots use a random number generator. The differences are in how a win is counted and where the larger payouts sit.

  • Classic slots

Three reels, a handful of lines

Cherries, bars and sevens. The rules are short, and bonus features are rare or missing.

Start here if paylines are new to you.

  • Video slots

    Five reels with a theme

Today's standard slot, built around wilds, scatters, free spins and a storyline.

The paytable tells you what starts the bonus. Read it before you bet.

  • Megaways

A different reel shape every spin

Reels change height from one spin to the next, giving as many as 117,649 ways to win.

Most are high volatility, so long quiet spells are normal.

  • Cluster pays

    Wins come from touching groups

A winning group vanishes, new symbols fall into its place, and one spin can set off several wins in a row.

Let a cascade finish before you judge the spin.

  • Progressive jackpots

    A prize that keeps growing

A slice of every stake feeds a shared prize, which climbs until someone hits it.

Regular wins are smaller to pay for the pot, so you're really playing for the jackpot.

  • Bonus buy slots

    Skip straight to the feature

Rather than waiting for scatters, you pay a fixed price to start the free spins.

One buy can cost many times your stake, so budget for it separately.

The basics

What happens when you press Spin?

The result is settled the instant you press the button. A random number generator picks the symbols, and the reels spin to show them. Matching symbols along a payline, or in enough positions on a ways or cluster game, pay a multiple of your stake. One spin has no bearing on the next.

Everything after that is animation. Stopping the reels early, changing your stake or moving to another game won't change what the next spin brings.

RTP

What does RTP mean in a slot?

RTP stands for return to player. It's the share of every rupee staked that a slot pays back over millions of spins, so a 96% game keeps around 4% as its house edge. The number describes all players over the long run, and your own session can land far above or below it.

Some slots are released in more than one RTP version, and the casino decides which one to run. Check the info screen for the figure that applies to the game you've opened.

Volatility

What does volatility tell you?

It describes how a slot hands out its payback. A low-volatility game pays small amounts often, so your balance drifts slowly. A high-volatility game can go a long time without paying and then land something big, usually during a bonus round. Two slots with identical RTP can feel nothing alike because of this.

Many games rate their volatility on the info screen, with a number or a row of icons.

  • Low volatility

Small wins land often. Suits long sessions and modest budgets.

  • Medium volatility

Somewhere in between, and the setting most slots use.

  • High volatility

Long gaps, then big wins in the bonus. You need a larger budget to ride it out.

Ways to win

How does a slot count a win?

There are four common systems. Payline games pay when matching symbols sit on a fixed line, normally starting from the leftmost reel. Ways games drop the lines and pay matching symbols on reels next to each other, in any row. Megaways games change the height of each reel every spin, and cluster games pay for any group of touching symbols.

Free spins

How do you trigger free spins?

On most video slots, landing three or more scatters anywhere on the reels starts the free spins. They play at your last stake without costing anything extra, and often add multipliers, sticky wilds or expanding symbols. On high-volatility games, much of the total payback comes through these rounds.

Jackpots

Where does a progressive jackpot come from?

From the players. A small cut of every bet on the game, often pooled across many casinos, goes into the prize. It keeps climbing until a single spin wins it, then drops back to a starting amount.

The money for the pot has to come from somewhere, so the everyday RTP is lower than on a regular slot.

Playing smart

Can you beat a slot?

No. The random number generator can't be beaten and the RTP is fixed. What you do control happens before the first spin: choosing a high-RTP game, matching its volatility to your budget, setting a stake that makes the budget last and deciding when you'll stop.

  • Look up the RTP before your first spin
  • No slot is ever due, because every spin starts fresh
  • Give autoplay a loss limit
  • Treat a bonus buy as one large, fast bet

Ask support

What does RTP mean in slots?

Return to player: the share of all stakes a slot pays back across a huge number of spins. At 96%, the game keeps about 4% in the long run.

Which slots pay back the most?

Popular video slots tend to sit near 96%, and a few classic or low-volatility games go past 97%. Progressive jackpots usually have the lowest base RTP. The exact number is in each game's info screen.

What is volatility in a slot?

It's how a slot spreads its wins. Low volatility means frequent small wins. High volatility means rare, larger ones, mostly from the bonus round.

Are online slots random?

Yes. A random number generator sets each result, with no link to earlier spins, how much you bet or the time of day.

Is a slot ever due to pay?

No. Each spin is independent, so a long losing run doesn't raise the chance of a win on the next one.

What does a scatter symbol do?

It pays or starts a feature from any position on the reels, without needing a payline. Three or more usually trigger free spins.

What is a bonus buy?

An option to pay a fixed price, often about 100 times your stake, and go straight into the bonus round instead of waiting for scatters.

Can I play slots on my phone?

Yes. Goexch works in Chrome or Safari on Android and iPhone, and you can pin it to your home screen. There's nothing to download.
