Markets explained

Which tennis markets can I bet on?

These six are available on most matches. Grand Slam matches often carry extra lines, such as total sets and player games.

Match winner

Pick who wins. Favourites pay very little, so look for matches where form and surface record point a different way to the ranking.

Set betting

Call the exact set score, such as 2-0 or 2-1. It's harder to get right than the match winner, so it pays more.

Total games

Over or under a line for the number of games in the match. Tie-breaks and long, close sets push the total up.

Game handicap

The underdog gets a head start of a few games. Backing the favourite on a handicap gets you a better price than the plain match winner.

First set winner

Who takes the first set. It settles early, and it suits players known for fast starts.

Live game winner

Who wins the next game. Prices swing hard on break points, so this market moves faster than any other.

Surfaces

How does the court surface affect tennis betting?

Clay is slow and rewards players who can grind out long rallies. Grass is quick and suits big servers. Hard courts sit in between. A player's record on the surface often tells you more than their overall ranking.

Calendar

When are the tennis Grand Slams?

Four Slams anchor the season, and men play best of five sets at each of them. Masters 1000 and WTA 1000 events and the season-ending Finals fill the weeks in between.

What happens to my bet if a player retires?

It depends on when it happens. If at least one full set has been completed, the player who goes through counts as the winner. If the player retires before the first set is finished, match winner bets are void and your stake comes back. Set and game markets that were already decided stand either way. If you're unsure about a match with an injury, ask support before you bet.

How tennis bets settle

In-play

Why is tennis good for live betting?

The price moves with every point. Markets usually lock while a point is being played and reopen between points, so there's a short window to get your bet on.

  • First-serve percentage

A player landing fewer first serves is likely to face more break points.

  • Medical timeouts

A timeout can point to an injury, and an injury raises the chance of a retirement.

  • Tie-breaks

A tie-break can go either way, so prices swing more than in any other part of a set.

  • Weather

Wind, heat and rain delays all affect players and can change the flow of a match.

Can a tennis match end in a draw?

No. Every tennis match is played until one player wins, so match winner bets only have two outcomes.

What is set betting in tennis?

Set betting means calling the exact score in sets, such as 2-1 in a best-of-three match or 3-1 in a best-of-five. It's harder to predict than the match winner, so the prices are longer.

What happens to my bet if a player retires?

If a player retires or is disqualified after at least one full set, the player who goes through counts as the winner. If it happens before the first set is finished, match winner bets are void. Set and game markets that were already decided stand.

Tennis settlement rules

Which tennis tournaments can I bet on?

All four Grand Slams, ATP Masters 1000 and WTA 1000 events, the season-ending Finals and most 250 and 500 tournaments.

Do men and women play the same number of sets?

At the Grand Slams, men play best of five sets and women play best of three. At almost every other tour event, both play best of three.
